THE WINE
Since 1931, five generations of the BROTTE family have been dedicated to the careful crafting of refined, elegantly fruity and spicy wines with a remarkably smooth character. Domaine Grosset belonged to Alain Grosset, Laurent Brotte’s father-in-law. The Grosset family has always been very active in the village of Cairanne’s community and cultural life and has greatly contributed to the development of the AOC
Appearance – Ruby hue with garnet tints.
Nose – Intense. The nose offers up a combination of fresh fruit, such as raspberries and redcurrants, with remarkable spicy notes of cinnamon and garrigue scrubland. The wine will become smoother with time, and develop jammy raspberry and plum, as well as undergrowth, aromas.
Palate – The wine is full-bodied and spicy with notes of wild strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. Hints of toast and sweet spices add complexity. The palate is broad and the finish is very long.
LOCATION, TERROIR & VINIFICATION
LOCATION
The property’s vineyards in Cairanne are located below the old village. The plots are situated on the Echaffins, Blauvac and Ameillaud terroirs.
TERROIR
The vineyards cover an area of 25 hectares and are home to 100-year-old Grenache vines. They are made up of two very different types of soil: grey marl and sand, creating fresh fruit and structure, and stony sandy clay terraces, creating lovely aromatic power. The hot, dry Mediterranean climate is ideal for the ripening of the Grenache.
VINIFICATION & AGEING
The sustainably managed soils are ploughed during the year. Extensive green work is carried out in spring to reduce yields and thereby improve the quality of the grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small containers to prevent any oxidation. 3 weeks of maceration and ageing partially in concrete tanks to preserve the freshness of the fruit and in 100-year-old oak foudres to create smoothness. The wine is bottled in March after 9 months of ageing and a light filtration.

SERVING

FOOD PAIRINGS
Enjoy this wine in its youth paired with a rib of grilled beef, a grilled rack of piglet or a chicken stew with green olives. With age, the wine will work well with a terrine of hare, beef stroganoff, lamb chops or a bull “gardianne”.
