THE WINE
With many years of experience in the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Laudun AOC, Maison Brotte knows the local terroirs like the back of its hand. It therefore selects the vines with the best exposure growing in sandy-clay soils covered with gravel or stones, with excellent drainage. This gives the wine a great deal of freshness.
Appearance – Dark ruby hue
Nose – Complex and fragrant. Well-balanced aromas of black fruit, spice and hints of mint, violets and vanilla.
Palate – Concentrated and very elegant with soft, melted tannins. The wild berry and black cherry aromas perfectly match those found on the nose. The finish is long and pleasant in which the Grenache shows its full potential.
LOCATION, TERROIR & VINIFICATION
Château de Bord is a property with a 22-hectare vineyard and a medieval castle at its heart overlooking the vines. It is located in Laudun-l’Ardoise in the Gard department, between Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Lirac.
TERROIR
With many years of experience in the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Laudun AOC, Maison Brotte knows the local terroirs like the back of its hand. It therefore selects the vines with the best exposure growing in sandy-clay soils covered with gravel or stones, with excellent drainage. This lends the wine a great deal of freshness.
VINIFICATION & AGEING
The grape varieties are vinified separately. Syrah is usually fermented at lower temperatures with a short two-week maceration to bring out as much of the black fruit aromas as possible. This grape variety creates lovely tannins. Grenache is often vinified at higher temperatures, providing power and texture. The long maceration (between 3 and 4 weeks) enhances the complexity of the aromas of the fruit from which it originates. The wine is aged for 8 months in 100-year-old oak foudres and concrete tanks.
