Viognier - Baies Dorées - white

THE WINE

Since 1931, five generations of the Brotte family have been carefully and lovingly crafting refined, elegantly fruity and spicy wines with a remarkably smooth character. Its in-depth knowledge of the terroirs and the art of vinification and ageing endow all the Brotte wines with their distinctive style. Viognier is a varietal with a more subtle acidity. In this wine, it is the typical smoothness and creaminess of the Brotte wines that have been really brought to the fore.

Appearance  – Dark golden yellow hue.

Nose – Intense. When young, the wine’s nose is fresh with apricot, peach and jasmine aromas. After a year of cellar-ageing, dry apricot aromas dominate the nose which then goes on to develop notes of acacia honey, quince and ripe peaches.

Palate – When young, the wine is fresh and soft with hints of apricots and wild peaches. It is a perfect partner for aperitifs, summer salads, grilled white fish, sushi and sweet and sour Asian cuisine. This is a wine to be enjoyed when it is still relatively young, but which will go on to develop a lovely fat and notes of dried apricots and honey with age

LOCATION, TERROIR & VINIFICATION

LOCATION

The majority of the grapes come from the Gard department, particularly the commune of Laudun on the right bank of the river Rhône.

TERROIR

“Baies Dorées” (golden berries): A tribute to the Viognier grape variety. The berries of this grape variety, native to the Rhône region, turn amber and golden when ripe. We have selected vines planted on a gorgeous silty-clay terroir which receives a great deal of sunshine. The hot, dry climate helps the grapes to ripen well and also helps to maintain the vineyards in good health

VINIFICATION & AGEING

The grapes are harvested when fully ripe early in the morning and are then directly and gently pressed. The Viognier ferments in stainless steel vats at 18-20°C for 15 days. We do not carry out the malolactic fermentation to preserve the freshness of the aromas. After a tangential filtration, the wine is bottled in the March following the harvest.

RECOMMENDATIONS

SERVING

An excellent aperitif wine. Serve at 11°C.

FOOD PAIRINGS

When young, this wine is perfect with aperitifs, summer salads, grilled white fish, sushi and sweet and sour Asian cuisine. With age, it will pair nicely with shrimp dishes, a terrine of salmon and dry or ash-dusted goat’s cheeses.
